Grand Turk Cruise
Streching about 14 acres of land, a recreational area was buildt that includes swimming pool, approximately 1000 feet of beachfront property with snorkeling equipment, beach float and other rentals available. Pool side cabanas are available for rent as well managed thru your shipboard shore excursion departments. Food and beverage , shops and a multitude of gifts are obtainable at the cruise center.
The Center's design has been based on a Bermudian style architecture prevalent in Grand Turk throughout the golden age of the island's salt production in the 17th and 18th centuries. Visitors to the Cruise Center may furthermore notice the out of place chimneys on a large number of of the buildings. Although they were not necessary given the island's warm climate, they were a "must" by the Bermudians who wanted to recreate the style of their old homes.
The services in the Welcome Center include restrooms, locker rooms, lounge chairs in the pool and free beach area. For shading, free umbrellas are around in the pool area only.
The Grand Turk Cruise Centre, that is managed by Carnival Corporation, has been scheduled to reopen on October 8, 2008 following the major destruction that Hurricane Ike caused.
According to Carnival, an engineering investigation confirmed that no damage was sustained to the cruise ship pier, that can accommodate up to two cruise ships at one time, while minimal damage happened to the facility’s retail and restaurant complex.
Carnival will also be initiating financial and logistical benefits to shore excursion operators to enable them to resume a sound business.
